PB's Race Report

Going into Rockingham’s one and only race we had Ryan “Big Head” Newman on the pole. He didn’t stay there long, though, because Jamie McMurray took over. Nothing exciting happened until lap 39 when the first caution came out for Ken Schrader and Johnny Sauter got into a little tiff. Ken ended up in the wall but was able to stay on the lead lap. The next caution came out for Kyle Petty and his rubber. Well actually it was his good year which was cut down by Sauter. Is he a menace on wheels or what? It must be because he drives for AOL, that causes him to lose brain power. They do have good commercials, though. (As long as OCC is in them)

Robbie Gordon was in the lead for awhile…sadly… until Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon leap frogged by him. Matt Kenseth then took over, signaling my nap time and a lull in the race until Ken Schrader caused Jimmie Johnson to wreck. Damn that Ken. It messed up Jimmie’s car pretty bad, too. Speaking of Ken…where the hell is my Schwann’s man? I need to call them… Kenseth led most of the laps by the way. On lap 196 Larry Foyt and his car decided they had had enough and said what the hell, let’s kiss the wall. And so they did. They were okay for about 20 laps or so until Rusty threw his beer can out of the car to get another caution. Sources say it was one of his fans, but honestly most of them (emphasis on most) aren’t that smart.

The biggest wreck of the day was on lap 264 when Carl Long had a flashback to the disco days and rolled his car down the backstretch. He is okay, by the way. This was caused by Nemechek getting hit from behind (I heard he likes it like that) and bumping into Carl. McMurray passed Kenseth but I think Kenseth let him do it because he needed a piss break. It didn’t last long, though, and Kenseth took the lead back. The last caution of the day came out after this, around lap 352 when Robbie Gordon almost flipped over in the same vicinity as where Carl did his pirouettes. Jeff Green hit Robbie and caused the accident… remind me to send Mr. Green a Christmas card. All this happened while green flag pit stops were going down. Kenseth was in the pits but managed to keep the lead because they froze the field.

So anyway, the final lap was the most edge-of-your-seat-exciting-Sunday-I’ve-had-since-I-had-to-do-CPR-okay enough dashes… Kasey Kahne (isn’t he a wrestler?) was attempting to overcome Kenseth for the lead, he almost made it but sadly there was the start/finish line. It was almost a photo finish. Congrats to Kenseth fans and enjoy your off week!

RESULTS: Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray, Sterling Marlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman, Rusty Wallace, Kurt Busch, Ward Burton, and Jeff Gordon.
